Two vessels were targeted overnight off Iraq’s coast, including the US-owned tanker Safe Sea Vishnu, which was struck by an Iranian suicide boat near the Khor al-Zubair port while carrying nearly 400,000 barrels of Iraqi oil. The explosion set the vessel ablaze and reportedly killed a foreign national.

Another cargo ship, the Thai-flagged Mayur Inari bound for Kandla in Gujarat, also came under attack but its crew managed to escape safely. The strikes come amid a wider regional escalation with reported attacks on oil storage sites in Bahrain’s Musharrak and facilities near Oman’s Salalah port. India has condemned the targeting of commercial shipping, warning that such incidents could disrupt maritime security and global energy supplies as the West Asia conflict intensifies.
