In this video, Dr Meetal Shah shares the story behind his journey into dentistry and his interest in temporomandibular disorders (TMJ / TMD).
Born in Kenya with family roots in India, Dr Shah later moved to the UK, where access to education helped shape his path into dentistry. Early in his career he focused on restorative and cosmetic dentistry, where he began noticing that changes in bite and jaw function sometimes improved symptoms such as jaw pain and headaches.
These experiences led him to develop a deeper interest in temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain, and the impact that accurate diagnosis and treatment can have on patients’ lives.
Many people with chronic jaw pain, facial pain or headaches are often told that nothing can be done. At TMJ Centre Melbourne, our focus is on careful diagnosis and understanding the factors contributing to symptoms, so that treatment can be directed appropriately.
