Kingsburg is located 20 miles south of Fresno on Highway 99. The SP Railroad pushed through the area in 1873. The depot was built in 1878 to meet the needs of the growing community and agricultural interests there.
As trucks began to siphon freight business and cars and cheap air fares did the same to passenger service, the depot was no longer needed and was donated to the city.
The Friends of the Historic Kingsburg Depot have done an outstanding job with the restoration. If you're in the area, check it out! The area was settled by Swedish immigrants and their influence is still visible there today.
