When the oilfields northeast of Bakersfield began to really boom in the 1890s there was no way to get the oil shipped out as fast as it was being produced so in 1900 Southern Pacific Railroad built the Oil City Branch from the mainline at MP 307.7 out into the fields. Accounts vary as to when the Serguro Depot was moved to this location but it was around 1915. There is also disagreement about just where it came from, Oil City or Waits but it was NOT built here originally.
As pipelines were built out of the oilfields shipping traffic began to slow and the last few miles of track was abandoned and the agency was transferred to Bakersfield.
This video is a history of the depot which is currently a private residence.
