Originally introduced in 1962 by AMT, this 1955 Chevrolet Nomad Model Kit by AMT/ERTL is one of those highly detailed model car kits and goes together as easily now as it did in it's first production run.

The engine in this model kit is a multi-piece affair, typical of AMT in the 1962 era. It is a nice representation of the stock 1955 265 cu in (4.3 L) small block Chevy. This engine consists of 22 highly detailed parts including the air cleaner, carburetor, intake manifold, 2-piece engine block/transmission combo, Chevrolet script cylinder heads, 3-piece exhaust headers, oil pan, front timing chain cover, oil filler spout, distributor cap, fan belt, fan and generator. You can also build this engine with these replacement drag racing parts : velocity stacks, chrome fuel injection intake manifold, chrome valve covers, and 2-piece chrome exhaust headers. All these parts are molded in light grey plastic and chrome.

The chassis is a beautifully designed unit that includes independent upper front suspension, bottom plate, lower A-frame, pose-able front axle with coil springs, tie rod, king pins with three height selections, 2-piece differential with rear leaf springs, drive shaft, shock absorbers, your choice of exhaust pipes, (molded in factory single exhaust or the chrome drag racing exhaust dumps.) and front and rear chrome bumpers that mount to the chassis.
The suspension is true to the stock ride height.

For the drag racing version, you get traction bars for the rear axle, a 6-piece dropped I-beam axle that includes a crossmember, chrome front axle with shocks molded in place, transverse spring, radius rods, backing plates, and a tie rod.

You get a choice of two types of wheels - the factory stock wheels with hub caps (molded as one piece) and Cragar 5-spoke wheels. The wheels share the same backing plates, with the stock wheels using Firestone tires and the Mag wheels using Goodyear Blue Streak Dragway Special's from the early 1960's.

The interior consists of a wonderful tub with 1-piece bench seat, 2-piece rear seat (Although the insert has been lost since 1986) dashboard, steering post with shift lever, stock and custom steering wheels and an optional floor shift lever and custom console. You also get a helmet, custom/drag racing bucket seats with 4-point harnesses, "Eelco" gauges, and a tachomoeter. The instructions include painting notes and a interior color selection chart.

The body of our Nomad features an opening tail gate window and lower tail gate. You also have the option to remove a portion of the Nomad Wagon roof and replace it with the custom "El Camino" roof panel and chrome bed rails. There is also a custom grille insert and a narrow grill to use in the custom version. Underneath the hood, you get a radiator wall support with radiator and horns. This is molded as one piece. You also get a separate battery and a firewall insert panel.

You also get Factory Stock or Custom "Lucas" Chrome headlights with clear lenses, parking lights, grille, hood ornament, taillight bezels, front and rear bumpers with separate front and rear bumper guards, two choices of stock or custom tail lights, licence plate brackets, a stock hood and a 1-piece hood scoop for the custom version. It also includes an excellent chrome plated 4-piece "moon" gas tank for the dragster.

A lot of these pieces can be shared with the AMT 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air model kit to dress it up as a custom or make it a vintage "Gasser" drag racer as that model was based off this 1955 Chevrolet Nomad kit.

The 1955 Chevrolet Nomad Model Kit by AMT/ERTL is molded in grey. The kit also includes clear plastic windows for front, rear and side windows and black vinyl tires. The instructions also include interior and exterior color charts and Nomad specifications.

Overall, this model kit is an excellent kit. The kit is well detailed and goes together easily. No matter how you build it, this is one fun model kit!
