Let's say a repair shop bills 500 hours a month.
And let's also say they worked on 140 cars.
If we divide 500 by 140, we get 3.57 hours per repair order.
Lets say the shop has 3 techs so this math puts us right at 41 hours billed per week, meaning each technician is capable of 8.2hr/day.
How many cars should I schedule a day?
If you guessed two, you get it! (8.2÷3.5=2.34)
Now many will say BUT LUCAS, the hours can swing wildly from job to job.....
And that's exactly why we use averages and NEVER set it and forget it!
We MUST adjust frequently and monitor work volume.
Now I also know some will raise heck over "being a week out isn't a good thing" - let me be clear - its a bad thing for client acquisition and retention for starters BUT the real reason I bring it up?
Well, thats because that 50%+ of the shops that say that? Have subpar efficency and productivity.
When you look at the data, you find they are two weeks out but only have 40 hours of sold work on site per tech.
But again, thats just from my perspective 😉
