Hello COFU Family…
As we continue this series on self-control, power, and leadership, today I want to take us deeper — not outward, but inward.
Because self-control is not something that suddenly appears when pressure comes.
Self-control is formed — quietly — when no one is watching.
🌿 Self-Control Is a Discipline, Not a Mood
Many people wait to feel calm before they act calm.
But self-control does not come from feelings —
it comes from discipline.
The Bible tells us in Galatians 5:22–23:
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
Notice something important —
self-control is not listed as a personality trait.
It is a fruit.
Fruit grows.
Fruit develops.
Fruit requires time and care.
🌱 Why Emotional Immaturity Looks Like Power
Emotional immaturity often disguises itself as strength.
Yelling sounds powerful.
Intimidation feels powerful.
Silence used as punishment feels powerful.
But the Bible exposes this truth in Proverbs 29:11:
“A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise person keeps himself under control.”
Wisdom is quiet.
Wisdom is steady.
Wisdom does not need to prove itself.
🌾 Spiritual Discipline Shapes Emotional Responses
When spiritual discipline is missing, emotions lead.
When spiritual discipline is present, emotions follow.
That discipline looks like:
• pausing before responding
• praying before reacting
• choosing restraint over release
Jesus Himself modeled this.
In Luke 22:42, He said:
“Not my will, but Yours be done.”
That is the highest form of self-control —
submission.
🌿 Maturity Is Taking Responsibility for Your Reactions
Emotional maturity begins when we stop blaming others for how we react.
The Bible says in James 1:19–20:
“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.”
Notice the order:
Listen first.
Speak second.
React last.
That order protects relationships
🌱 Self-Control Creates Stability
People trust leaders who are stable.
Children feel safe with parents who are stable.
Homes flourish when emotions are stable.
The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 9:25:
“Everyone who competes exercises self-control in all things.”
If discipline is required to win a race,
how much more is it required to lead a family?
🌸 Closing for Part 7
COFU Family,
self-control is not about perfection.
It is about practice.
It is built in prayer.
It is strengthened in humility.
It is revealed under pressure.
And when spiritual discipline leads your emotions,
your leadership becomes safe, steady, and life-giving.
