The Ghan Train made a morning stop in Katherine so we could visit Katherine Gorge which is located in Nitmiluk National Park. Nitmiluk National Park, located northeast of Katherine in Australia’s Northern Territory, is a spectacular landscape renowned for the 13 dramatic gorges carved by the Katherine River through ancient sandstone. This deep gorge was carved by the Katherine River and is framed by brown vertical sandstone walls.
We were there during the dry season and enjoyed a smooth cruise on the placid water.
