Uluru (Ayers Rock) is a large sandstone rock located in the southwest corner of the Northern Territory Australia. We had an opportunity to view this “island mountain” during an early morning sunrise camel ride. Our camel, Buddy, took us for a nice ride in the crisp morning air through a landscape of red sand and many different desert plants. As the sun rose, Uluru exhibited different hues in the changing sunlight. We could also see Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) in the distance. After thanking Buddy for our conveyance, we enjoyed some coffee, tea and freshly baked beer bread with quandong jam. Later that morning, we took a long tour around the base of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and learned its significance to the Anangu Aboriginal people. Then we went to a popular lookout to enjoy closer views of the magnificent Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), a geological splendor of some 35 brilliant domes.
