My wife and I attended a wedding near Annapolis, Maryland. We brought the bikes, but the wedding festivities kept us too busy to ride. We did, however, manage to sneak in a short ride on the drive home to Cleveland. We took a little detour south of I-70 and stopped in the town of Brunswick, MD. From there, we rode the C&O Canal Towpath Trail west to the historic town of Harpers Ferry, WV.
Although short, the ride was delightful. The C&O reminded me of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath, but its backdrop was much more spectacular than in Ohio. With its white water and rocky terrain, the Potomac was stunning, framed in by the Appalachian Mountains. This stretch of the C&O was shared with the Appalachian Trail, so in addition to cyclists, there were several thru-hikers.
I rode my Cannondale F29 Hardtail MTB. My wife rode her Cannondale CAADX.
