The timing of the lateral force is imperative to the timing of the rotational and vertical forces. The best ball strikers sequence it correctly.
Let me help you learn to sequence it. Click the link!

The timing of the three forces, lateral, rotational and vertical, is not only important for good contact but for the creation of clubhead speed as well. You push into the ground, and because you can’t move the earth, the earth pushes you back. This is called Ground Reaction Force (GRF). (Not to be confused with ground force reaction. That would be your body shaking during an earthquake. Hard to swing a golf club during one of those!) GRF is the equal and opposite force exerted by the ground on the golfer, which helps generate power during the swing. When a golfer interacts with the ground, they apply force or pressure through their feet, especially during the backswing and downswing phases.
Here’s how it works:
• Backswing: For the golfer to shift their weight, or mass, to their trail foot (usually the right foot for a right-handed golfer), they apply pressure into the ground. The best swingers start this with their left leg and respond to this push with a counter force from the trail leg. Most of the work in the backswing is done early in the takeaway.
• Transition: During the transition from the backswing to downswing, the golfer begins shifting their weight to the lead foot (left foot for right-handed golfers). This happens before the golf club gets to the top of the swing, usually when the arms reach about chest or shoulder height, the lower body is beginning the transition to downswing.
• Downswing: At the start of the downswing, the force applied through the LEAD foot helps generate acceleration. The more a golfer pushes into the ground, the more force the ground pushes back with, helping to generate torque and speed in the swing.
You want to think more about pushing into the ground with your legs, than moving your mass side to side. By pressing into the ground and rotating efficiently, you can maximizes the GRF , leading to a more powerful and controlled swing.
