This video looks at the unique movements of the hip joint (the femur and pelvis)- and how that impacts our yoga poses. The Hip is a ball and socket joint formed by the head of the Femur and the acetabulum (socket) of the pelvis. It has a complex network of muscles that wrap around it to form the pelvic girdle, that we will look at in a later video- but that is what makes hip movement so important- these muscles are frequently tight and weak and therefore need to be addressed in our practice through stretching, strengthening and stabilization.
