Ingredients:
Fresh hawthorn berries 1kg
Granulated sugar 1kg
Bamboo or wooden skewers (20 sticks)
Water 500ml
Instructions:
1. Prepare Hawthorn Berries:
Wash the hawthorn berries thoroughly under running water.
Use a knife to cut the hawthorn berries in half, removing the seeds. Keep a small portion uncut.
2. Thread the Berries:
Take a bamboo or wooden skewer and start threading the hawthorn berries. Begin with the smaller ones and end with the larger ones.
3. Boiling Syrup:
In a pot, pour a bowl of water and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.
Add granulated sugar, stirring with chopsticks until the syrup thickens and achieves a deeper color.
To check if the syrup is ready, dip the chopsticks lightly; it should form threads when lifted.
4. Coating the Berries:
Once the syrup is ready, dip the threaded hawthorn berries into the syrup, ensuring a thin, even coating. No need to immerse too deeply for a perfect balance of sweetness.
5. Letting it Cool:
Allow the sugar-coated hawthorn berries to cool, ensuring the syrup sets and the treat becomes delightfully crispy.
