In this episode, we travel in our converted Ford transit campervan, with our dog, Twyla, and our friend Monica to Swan Hill, Victoria. In this episode we visit the Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement Museum.

Swan Hill is just three and a half hours north-west from Melbourne and five and a half hours from Adelaide. The region is renowned for its fresh local produce, sprawling landscapes, Australian native wildlife and Aboriginal heritage. The region runs alongside the majestic Murray River for nearly 200 kilometres, and beautiful townships like Lake Boga, Nyah/Nyah West, Woorinen, and the regional center of Robinvale.

The Pioneer Settlement Museum is an open-air museum that serves as a model of what life was like in the Swan Hill area during the 18th century. With 50 replica buildings, the first-ever tractor in Australia and a genuine Kaiser panorama.

Set on the banks of the Little Murray River, the world-class ‘Heartbeat of the Murray’ is a 360-degree multi-media spectacular show by The Pioneer Settlement. Using water, light, laser, sound and special effects to tell the story of the Murray, you’ll be transported back 30 million years, before travelling forward through time to the Murray River as we know it today.
This state-of-the-art show is the first of its kind in the world to use a natural river environment and setting as the background. Heartbeat of the Murray takes place at Riverside Theatre which is a short 200 metre walk from the Paragon Café, on a sealed road surface. This show contains strobe lighting which may trigger seizures in some people with epilepsy.

It’s great to see Australian tourism picking up with many people traveling around Australia in caravans, campervans, RVs, and camping in tents.
