I was surprised to learn that the authorship of this beautiful old hymn is unknown. According to hymnary.org, it was published in at least 61 different hymnals. Albert E. Brumley copyrighted the arrangement but did not write the song. According to hymnary.org, the song may have been written or composed by many people over a long span of time. Regardless of who originally created the song, I think it's one that many people can identify with or come to identify with at some point in their lives. If we live long enough and are saved by Grace, we reach a time when we are ready to exchange this world for the next one. Granny and I hope you enjoyed our impromptu attempt at this song. We thought we would be doing good to remember two verses, so we left out the other two. Because I sat closer to the camera, it's harder to hear Granny's harmony. I tried to make up for the difference in distance by turning my head away from the camera, but sometimes I forgot or had to face forward to take a quick look at the guitar neck. Had I sat back on the couch, even with Granny, it would have been harder to play the guitar, and the neck of the guitar would have been across her, possibly obstructing her view of the hymnal on her lap. Because it has been a while since we featured Granny on this channel, and because so many Acorns have requested more videos of Granny, we filmed three songs in this one sitting. I will share the other two, Lord willing, on the next two Old Timey Tuesdays. :-)
