there is the famous black LP by the Berner Troubadours, released in 1971 with a gimmick cover, you can still get that one as official download but for some reason this blue compilation isn't anywhere. which is very sad because here you have the absolute classic Fritz Widmer tracks, they're so much fun!

this compilation is half studio/half live and for three songs Widmer teams up with Ruedi Krebs. some of the songs used here are traditional songs from allover the world re-arranged and translated into bärndütsch but Fritz Widmer has released a whole lot of albums until he sadly deceased in 2010.
1992 offered us the release of "Matterrock", a musical hommage to Mani Matter - another member of the Berner Troubadours that had died very early in 1972. in 1991 Fritz Widmers album "24 Lieder Us 25 Jahr" was released, where he's rearranging 24 of his own songs. in the booklet he already had talked about the idea of others playing his songs but as he mentions - noone was really interested. what a shame. at the same time I must admit that Fritz Widmer kind of distanced himself a bit from his own early songs and showed a different approach on later recordings. still he kept being part of the gang. the Berner Troubadours opened up their very own "Musig Bistrot" in Bern Monbijou and kept performing as a group until 2011, when Berhard Stirnemann had died.
the Troubadours wasn't the only group of Liedermacher & Chansonnier in Bern and especially during the later years those collectives mixed up a bit - but as Berner Troubadours you will probably forever think of this group:
Ruedi Krebs, Mani Matter, Bernhard Stirnemann, Jacob Stickelberger, Markus Traber &
Fritz Widmer.
