Carbon farming support - options for engagement with NRM Regions Australia

Описание: As the demand for carbon farming projects increases, so do the support options for landholders looking to participate in the sector. Many landholders are curious about options for working with other landholders to generate income from carbon farming projects and other beneficial environmental services. This webinar explored the approaches being undertaken by three different organisations in the carbon farming space, with short presentations followed by a panel discussion.

Andrew Ward - Regen Farmers Mutual.
Regen Farmers Mutual is a farmer-owned mutual - that is each farmer controls the mutual 1-member, 1-vote. Members trust and rely upon the mutual for tech support, financing and transaction processes that enable farmers to work together to optimise environmental outcomes and reduce transaction costs. This is useful for farmers going into or through carbon farming and other natural capital-based projects. Regen Farmers Mutual partners with existing farmer and member organisations to deliver distributed services such as farmer support, training and network development.
Andrew Ward is Managing Director of Regen Farmers Mutual. Andrew has extensive experience in Co-operative and Mutual Enterprises, Community Wealth Building and Regenerative Agriculture.

Roberta (Bert) Atherton – Carbon Farming Foundation
The Carbon Farming Foundation (CFF) based in Western Australia have developed do-it-yourself Carbon Farming model, where CFF provides resources, guidance, software, and support so landowners feel confident to successfully set up and manage their own carbon crops. This model supports farmers in keeping a higher proportion of the carbon credits – and income – generated through carbon farming projects. CFF is also a registered not-for-profit, all profits that come into the organisation go back to helping Aussie farmers.


Roberta Atherton (Bert) is a carbon project facilitator at CFF, who loves working with landholders across the country interested in undertaking native reforestation, plantation forestry and soil carbon projects on their holdings. Like much of the CFF team, Bert grew up farming in the Darling Downs region of Qld and has had a varied career in law, community engagement and working in various capacities for environmental not for profits. She is passionate about strategic climate action and engaging people in the opportunities it presents.

Lorraine Gordon – The Regenerative Agriculture Alliance
The Regenerative Agriculture Alliance (RAA) based out of Southern Cross University is a collaboration of Australia's leading researchers and practitioners in regenerative agriculture, whose aim is to improve the holistic health and wellbeing of Australian landscapes, farmers and communities through regenerative agricultural research, education and practice. The RAA is focused on cooperative and collaborative carbon farming opportunities and is also co-leading the collaborative 'Northern Rivers Net Zero project'.


Lorraine Gordon is the founder of the Regenerative Agriculture Alliance. As Director of Strategic Projects at Southern Cross University, Lorraine acts as a conduit between industry and research, delivering sustainable and regenerative agriculture solutions nationally.


Lorraine is a beef cattle trader and carbon farmer at Ebor in the New England Tablelands and was awarded the 2018 Rural Community Leader of the Year for Australia. Lorraine was also a 2020 nominee and finalist for Australian of the Year for her work with farmers.
