Northeast U.S. - Episode 5 (Green Mountains, Vermont)

Описание: #In late August 2024, Sue, Cassie and I began a month-long trip leaving Ohio and traveling to the northeast with many stops including:
The Adirondacks where we visited Lake Placid, New York
Lake Champlain in Vermont
The White Mountains National Forest in New Hampshire
Acadia National Park in Maine, which was the pinnacle of our trip
The Green Mountains National Forest in Vermont
And, finally, a stop in the Finger Lakes region in New York

We are chronicling our trip to the northeast in a series of videos. This video (Episode 5) highlights our travels through southern New Hampshire and then on to the Green Mountain National Forest in southern Vermont.

In this episode we will cover Bear Brook State Park in New Hampshire, a quick stop at the King Arthur Baking Company in Norwich, Vermont, and a stop at Woodford State Park, Vermont including a visit to the Village of Old Bennington a town known for its Revolutionary War heritage and timeless charm.

Bear Brook State Park in southeastern New Hampshire is the state’s largest developed park, covering more than 10,000 acres of forest, wetlands, and rolling hills. With over 40 miles of trails and 101 campsites, it’s a popular destination for exploring nature in every season. The park’s diverse landscapes and rich history offer a glimpse into New Hampshire’s natural beauty and heritage.

Woodford State Park is in southern Vermont just east of Bennington, Vermont. The park spans 398 acres and sits at about 2,400 feet elevation—which is the highest-elevation public campground in the state. The State Park is tucked high in Vermont’s Green Mountains and the campground sits on the clear waters of the Adams Reservoir. Surrounded by spruce and fir trees, with cool mountain air, the scenic Fall setting made it a relaxing spot for Sue, Cassie and my two-night stay in the Green Mountains.

During one of our days staying at Woodford State Park, we took a short drive to Bennington, Vermont, a historic New England town. Just west of the downtown area lies the Village of Old Bennington, the original settlement founded in 1761, where history is preserved in its streets and landmark buildings. Exploring Old Bennington made for a perfect day trip from the quiet forests of Woodford State Park, blending the peace of the mountains with the rich history of Vermont’s earliest days.
