Peter records that after being sent out to preach repentance, the apostles returned to Jesus and reported all that they had done and taught. What follows is not immediately another miracle—but a call to rest.
In Mark 6:30–44, Jesus invites His weary disciples to withdraw to a desolate place. Yet the crowds arrive first. Instead of sending them away, Jesus has compassion on them because they are like sheep without a shepherd. He teaches them many things and then provides for their physical need by feeding five thousand men with five loaves and two fish.
This miracle reveals Jesus as the true Shepherd of Israel—one who both teaches and provides—while also involving His disciples directly in the work of ministry. What begins with rest ends with abundance in the wilderness.
