In the early 1900s, it was not the Daiquiri that was preferred by Cubans, but it was the Presidente Cocktail. It was most likely created sometime around 1915 by Constantino Ribalaigua from the La Florida/El Floridita Bar in Havana. It was also most likely named after Cuban President Mario García Menocal. As the cocktail became popular in the United States, a dry vermouth became the standard for recipes but the original Presidente Cocktail from Cuba was made with a Comoz Blanc Vermouth.
