Ashwell is a small village in north east Hertfordshire near the border with Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. Accommodation options within the village are extremely limited, The Three Tuns pub being the only official hotel within the village, the next nearest accommodation being in the hamlet of Odsey around 2 miles away.

I needed to be in central Ashwell, so The Three Tuns was the only realistic choice of accommodation that I had.

The pub / restaurant / hotel is a Greene King establishment located very centrally on Ashwell High Street. The pub has ample free car parking space at the rear and some very attractive gardens to the side and rear.

Two of us stayed at this establishment for one night, which cost £118 on a bed and breakfast basis. Upon arrival, check-in was at the bar, which functions as reception. We were taken up a tight and winding staircase (there is no lift) to our room, which wasn't numbered, but was called "Lutyens".

The room was fairly small with a double bed, a thick carpet, open wardrobe, drawers, tea and coffee making facilities, bed-side tables plug sockets on either side of the bed, iron, ironing board, hair-dryer and television.

The bathroom was small and compact, with a sink, toilet, cupboards and a walk-in shower with just a small step up.

Breakfast the next morning was served at the table and was certainly a 'wow-factor' full English breakfast, it was absolutely superb, one of the best that I've ever had, I could almost say it was worth coming here for the breakfast alone!

In summary, the room was small but comfortable enough, the staff were very nice and gave great service, the hotel is centrally located within Ashwell and the breakfast was brilliant. If I need to be in the centre of Ashwell again, then I would stop here again.
