Sky News host James Morrow says the ‘abolish the police’ movement in America will lead to a “sad and tragic situation” where people will only be able to get “the amount of protection they can afford”.
In response to the Black Lives Matter protests which have occurred across the country during the past few weeks, President Trump has signed an executive order incentivising police reforms.
Mr Morrow said “the end result is cops are walking off the job, they are striking, they are saying we are not going to do this job because we are not being supported by our leaders”.
If the power and authority currently wielded by police is rendered ineffectual due to reforms, then it will only be the “people who live in private suburbs who will be able to afford private security patrols” and protect themselves from criminal activity, he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
Sky News host Cory Bernardi said broadly speaking the police had been “painted as targets by political figures and by community leaders and made as scapegoats for the deaths of people who are rampant criminals”.
