Mery yt ys (or Mirie it is) whil sumer ylast with fugheles song. Oc! Now negheth windes blast and weder strong. Ey! Ey! What this night is long and I wit wel muchel wrong, sorwe and murne and fast.
Rough translation: Merry it is while summer lasts and the birds sing But now draws near the wind's blasts And harsh weather Alas, alas! How long the night is! And I, most unjustly Sorrow and mourn and fast.
