Text:
Beata viscera, Marie virginis
cuius ad ubera rex magni nominis;
veste sub altera vim celans numinis
dictavit federa Dei et hominis.
O mira novitas et novum gaudium,
matris integrita post puerperium.
Populus gentium sedens in tenebris
surgit ad gaudium partus tam celebris:
Iudea tedium fovet in latebris,
cor gerens conscium delicet funebris.
English translation by Bernard Mageean:
Blessed is the womb of the virgin Mary,
At whose breasts lay the king of great renown.
Hiding his mighty power,
He joined the human to the divine.
O amazing news of unprecedented joy!
We behold the virgin after the birth.
The people of nations once languishing in darkness
Now arise joyfully on account of this motherhood.
For Juda a weary sentence has been served in a dark place,
But now the heart with this secret is pouring light on those buried.
