The Square Knot, also called the Joining Knot, is the basic knot of Scouting. It is used to tie (join) together two ropes of similar diameters. It’s symbolism runs throughout the Scouting program. In this video, I show two way to tie the Square Knot, how to differentiate it from the Thieve’s Knot, and it’s similarity to the Sheet Bend, which is used to join two ropes with different diameters.
