Karen: On Kyler's IEP, he's never to be left alone. The door is open, isn't it? He is an eloper, and he does try to run.

Corky: Normal kids, you can let them play out in the backyard and pretty much know to stay at home. Kyler, he sees something or he wants to do something, he just goes.

Karen: So if he does happen to run off somewhere, we have this identification right away to show people, have you seen this child? But we keep this with us all the time. I think when you get an autistic diagnosis, it can be a challenge and it's quite overwhelming. But it was a battle to even to be out in our backyard, we'd spend a lot of time in the house.

Corky: He doesn't really know, you know, we look for cars or this noise or that noise is dangerous.

Karen: He qualified for the waiver program. It opened up the opportunity for the option of Accra. Some of the things that they went over with us was funding for a fence. Part of it is actually for PCA help. Another part of that that Accra talked to me about was security cameras. So if he were to get outside, we'd be alerted on it quickly. It's a little frightening. And Accra made that part of it--that transition--and they took care of that for me. He's got the support behind him. We've got a nice fence where he can play out in the backyard and he's got a little ride-on toy.

Karen: It's really on an individual basis that they'll go over what's needed for each client. I would recommend them to anybody. We're very, very grateful and very mindful of what Accra's done for us, potentially saved Kyler's life. I can't put a price on that. I can't even tell you how grateful that I am for that help. It's a peace of mind when you can go to sleep at night and know that he's safe.
