Our De Mint family story about Ataxia. Three our of four of our children have a recessive disorder Ataxia AOA2 which does not have a cure at this time. This is a degenerative neurological disease that effects the balance center of the brain. They were diagnosed in their teens after showing balance issues. After visiting many neurologists over a period of two years we ended up at UCLA with Dr. Susan Perlman and a diagnosis of Ataxia AOA2. Since the boys were diagnosed we have made changes to our home and lifestyle to accommodate their needs, such as adding a fully wheelchair accessible shower and grab bars throughout the house.
