Over his career, IFBB Pro champ Johnnie O. Jackson has done every form of deadlift on the planet, and in this MUTANT in a Minute video tip, he shares some advice to make sure you’re getting the most from the core movement. A lot of trainees, Johnnie explains, will start off in the correct traditional deadlift form, banging out a few solid reps. As that set goes on, fatigue starts to creep in, and this is where we “get lazy,” causing us to unintentionally slip into a stiff-legged or Romanian style of deadlift, relaxing the hips and leaning forward. Instead, let’s reset. Walk up to the bar till it touches your shins, keep your back straight and chest up, and explode up, thrusting the hips forward. Now lower the bar in a slow and controlled way, always being mindful of keeping that body in the same plane.
