What Is the Pride of Life?

Описание: Hebrews 12:1-2 teaches us that we become spiritually overweight when we allow things, circumstances and situations on earth to hinder our relationship with the Father in Zion. When we find that such things are taking a hold on our lives, the Word teaches us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, so that we can take control before we run amuck. One of these spiritual weights that Jesus conquered at Calvary when He cleansed us of sin and weights that weary us in this life.is the pride of life. Proverbs 16:18 teaches us that when such pride raises its head in our life here on earth, it cannot sustain itself, and it will surely cause us to fall. So, before it gets a good grip, we need to meditate on I Peter 5:7, casting all of our cares and anxieties on Jesus because He cares for us.

Genesis 25:27-34 tells of the occasion when Esau, the older twin brother of Jacob, came in from hunting, exhausted. When he asked Jacob for some food, Jacob told Esau that he would trade him some food for Esau's birthright. Now the birthright was the oldest son's entitlement to inherit his father's estate when his father passed away. Esau did so, "Saying, what good is a birthright to me now, exhausted and hungry." Hebrews 12:12-17 addresses this question again, calling Esau an unholy or irreligious man who had his priorities all wrong-- satisfying himself with worthless things rather than things the Lord held dear. The Vision of Obadiah discusses Esau's selfish pride as one that birthed the nation of Edom-- a nation whose downfall occurred because of their haughty spirit of arrogance that led to their destruction.

God uses Esau and Lot, Abraham's nephew, as two men whose downfall was imminent because neither was religious or holy in their walk with God-- in direct opposition to men of faith like Abraham and Jacob. God hates evil, and uses this analogy to categorize today's Christians, as either New Covenant men of faith-- OR, like Old Covenant men who believe they can do things on their own and don't need God. Such men find it impossible to please the Father.
