The splash pad at Clyde City Park used to be a place where kids could go to cool off during the West Texas summer heat, but it hasn’t had water in over three years.
Now, the community has come together to work towards a $150,000 goal to bring it back to life.
“This is a small community, and family is a huge, huge part of that," said David Mann, a Clyde City Council member. "As a grandparent, I just want a place that's safe and fun for our children to play.”
Mann and his wife organized the community to help raise funds, not as city leaders, but as residents.

For the past few summers, the splash pad has sat dry.
“There weren’t the funds to install the complete system when they put it in, so it was installed without a recirculation system for the water," Mann said.
Without that system, the splash pad couldn’t run.
Last summer, community members started working to change that.
“Oh, so much has happened since then," Mann said. "We’ve actually obtained our 501(c)(3) status, so we are officially recognized as a charity now.”
Since then, a board of local volunteers has formed, and fundraisers have started popping up around town.
“So far, it seems like the one of the most favorite ones we've done are our community bingo nights," Mann said. "We rent a hall here in town and host bingo night. We'll run ten to 12 games, and people are excited for us to bring it back, so it's been very popular.”

Those events are paying off.
“Our initial goal was $153,000 and some change," Mann said. "We have already collected almost $130,000.”
The community is now just about $27,000 away from reaching its goal.
“I really don't have the words for it," Mann said. "It makes your heart full every time you see the local businesses, the citizens, the community as a whole just come together and help us push for this goal.”

If the remaining money is raised soon, Mann said the next step is installing the water recirculation system, which could mean kids could be back splashing in the sprinklers soon.
The next big fundraiser is a car show on April 4th and with that, along with some others, Mann said he hopes this splash pad will open in the summer.
