In this video, Scott Kuykendall, Water Resources Specialist for McHenry County will provide information about the Clean Water Act, stormwater, and MS4 water quality Permitting – How stormwater is managed has a direct impact on water quality in our streams and rivers. The regulatory mechanism of the Clean Water Act that addresses stormwater is their Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit program. All Counties in the Chicago Region, along with many Municipalities and Townships, are required to maintain MS4 Permits with the IEPA. The MS4 program serves as a guide to help communities improve water quality in their watersheds. Even communities that are not currently required to maintain MS4 permits, should be following similar practices to reduce pollution.
KREP was formed around the Kishwaukee River Resource Rich Area in 1997 as part of the Conservation 2000 and Critical Trends and Assessment Program established by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).
