This year we brought five of the most promising and exciting newcomers of Reeperbahn Festival 2022 on stage in a unique setting: at the Xessions at resonanzraum we experienced the selected acts in an intimate atmosphere - and not only that: the shows were professionally recorded with a 270-degree stagescape and because of this impressive mediaproduction we’re now able to rewatch the artists performance right here on YouTube!

Although they’re from Hamburg and make well thought-out guitar music, they are less subscribed by the Hamburg music scene than they are influenced by late capitalist, post punk revival style of bands like Do Nothing, Idles or Protomartyr. So, post-post-punk? In a way, yes.
Fluppe deliberately choose somewhat quieter tones, through which they establish a unique style signature that takes aim at the status quo with the help of all sorts of eclecticisms. Sure, some indie rock is thrown into the mix, along with socio-critical lyrics and the odd soft spot for retro-futuristic aesthetics.

Reeperbahn Festival is the biggest club festival in Europe and the largest European platform for international pop culture and the music industry. Since 2006, for four days each September the Reeperbahn in Hamburg, Germany has become the center of the international music world and a sustainable interface between artists, the public, industry representatives and society. The Conference program is aimed at professional visitors from all segments of the music industry from around the world.

In diesem Jahr haben wir fünf der vielversprechendsten und spannendsten Newcomer*innen des Reeperbahn Festivals 2022 in einzigartigem Rahmen auf die Bühne geholt: Bei den Xessions im resonanzraum konntet ihr die ausgewählten Acts vor kleinem Publikum in intimer Atmosphäre erleben – und nicht nur das: Die Shows wurden mit einem 270-Grad-Bühnenbild professionell aufgezeichnet und dank dieser aufwändigen Medienproduktion können wir die Performance der Künstler*innen hier auf YouTube nochmal erleben!

Zwar kommen sie aus Hamburg und spielen wohldurchdachte Gitarrenmusik, sind aber dennoch weniger der Hamburger Schule als dem spätkapitalistischen Post-Punk-Revival Marke Do Nothing, Idles oder Protomartyr verschrieben. Also Post-Post-Punk? Irgendwie schon. Fluppe setzen ganz bewusst auf etwas ruhigere Töne, etablieren aber genau damit eine originelle Stilsignatur, die den Status Quo aufs Korn nimmt und sich dazu allerlei Eklektizismen bedient. Ja, etwas Indie-Rock ist hier auch im Mix, sozialkritische Lyrik und der eine oder andere soft spot für retrofuturistische Ästhetik.

Seit dem Debüt im Jahr 2006 hat sich das Reeperbahn Festival zu einem der wichtigsten Treffpunkte für die Musikwelt entwickelt und zeigt, wie sich ein überbordendes musikalisches Line-Up mit musikwirtschaftlichen Interessen und zivilgesellschaftlichem Engagement verbinden lässt.
Neben Konzerten umfasst das Programm auch Formate aus der Bildenden Kunst oder Virtual Reality sowie ein thematisch vielfältiges Film- und Literaturangebot. Im Rahmen von Sessions, Showcases, Networking Events und Award-Shows können Fachbesucher*innen des Reeperbahn Festivals Musik neu denken, erleben und: hören.

Unsere Festivals finden im Zeichen des Miteinanders statt – Rassismus, Sexismus, Homophobie und Ausgrenzung finden bei uns keinen Platz.
