2022 Boston Marathon Start to Finish

Описание: Boston Marathon 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of women entering the most prestigious marathon race. The 126th edition of Boston Marathon was on April 18, 2022.

This video includes the Boston Marathon course from start to finish, it also highlights some mile marks and hills along the way.

I hope this video provides some close to real racing experience and better prepares you when you plan to run the Boston Marathon.

I was running in Wave 3 corral 3. All runners in this group had qualifying time of 3 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 35 minutes. In addition, I was at the end of corral 3. So I might be behind all 3:35:00 runners. I made some brief comments along the key points. The key take away is that, first, it's hard to run faster than your group, especially during the first few miles. If you try, you're going to zig-zag among runners and run extra distance that will slow you down and consume more energy. The video is the raw footage while I was running with average pace of 7 minutes 58 seconds taking into the extra distance zigzagging along the course. I was trying to run a fast marathon instead of making a nice video. You may notice the footage shakes a little more towards the end as I push the pace to finish. The second half of the video is the last 2 miles without any gap. I did pass a few runners in my corral and finished in 3:30:06, a PR nonetheless. My plan was within 3:25:00 going into the race. Strong head wind is another factor contribute to the slower pace.

For those want to gain some insights into the Boston Marathon course, please note that, first, there are many more uphills than I thought. However small the rolling hills are, they tax your energy. Second, the hills between mile 16 and 21 are really long. I qualified Boston on the San Francisco course which had elevation gain of 1700 feet, double the net gain of Boston. I thought the Boston hills were easy. Well, never say easy in marathon. In retrospect, very steep but short uphills vs long gradual ones might not be that bad as far as energy consumption and psychological effect are concerned.
