8 weeks, 4 sites starting Wednesday 14th January and finished 11th March 2026.
We stayed on the left boarder close to Twycross, in the middle just above Leicester, top right near Belvoir Castle and bottom right near the Rutland boarder.
A county that has many neighbours which include Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Rutland, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, and Staffordshire. The geographical centre of England is in Leicestershire, near Fenny Drayton in the southwest of the county. A county that has access to all areas of the country which is evident by the sheer size and quantity of the business distribution Centers and their decision to locate in Leicestershire. Walkers Crisps being one with 11 million bags produced a day 🤯. Leicestershire is the tenth largest city in the United Kingdom and a large part of the north-west of the county, around Coalville, forms part of the new National Forest. Our journey into Leicestershire saw many new road and rail builds including the M6 rail bridge which was a cool thing to see. The Mining heretige and collieries stood out in the west. The fox is the symbol of Leicestershire, seen on its council crest and sports teams as it is the birthplace of fox hunting. DNA fingerprinting was formalized here and Blu-tac accidentally invented.
Not a nice thing but a huge amount of rubbish is noticeable along the main western 'A' roads compared with other counties ... shame on you west Leicestershire 😔.
Specific food includes Red Leicester and Festival Cheese, Walkers Crisps, Melton Mobray Pork Pie, Afternoon Tea, Pukka Pies and the curry capital with South Asian cuisine 😋
Within the Leicestershire boarders there are approximately 45 towns and villages by authorities of which we saw or passed through 29.
Visited towns/villages were Ashby De La Zouch, Kegworth, Castle Donington, Market Bosworth, Coalville, Hinckley, Loughborough, Leicester, Melton Mobray, Wigston, Oadby, Lutterworth, Market Harborough,
Visited attractions: Donisthorpe Woodland Park, Ashby De La Zouch Castle, St Helen's Church, Ashby Water Tower, West Midlands Airport, Castle Donington Power Station, Kelham Bridge Nature Reserve, Market Bosworth Country Park, Bradgate County Park, Queen's Park, John Taylor & Co Bell Foundry, Swithland Wood, Hunts Hill, Old John Tower, Bardon Hill (highest point in Leicestershire at 912 ft), Beacon Hill Country Park, Belvoir Castle,
60th Birthday for Neil while in Leicestershire 🥳
New glasses for both of us 🤓
Many photos and videos taken, we will try to show some of our favourites.
