What's the best way to write numbers in interfaces: "3" or "three"?
At first glance, it looks like a style decision. In practice, it’s about cognitive issues and accessibility.
In interfaces, users scan rather than read. You probably heard that millions of times.
Words slow that process down, especially in moments involving time, limits, or errors.
Digits often support accessibility better:
• They’re easier to scan for users with dyslexia
• They’re clearer for non-native speakers
• They’re faster to process for screen reading and visual parsing
Curious to hear your thoughts on this! Feel free to share it with colleagues and spark a quick debate over lunch 🍝
