La Coruña Port Walk (Hercules Tower) - Sep 2023 - P&O Arvia (K319)

Описание: This was our first port stop on the P&O Arvia Mediterranean Cruise (K319) in September 2023, stopping at the lovely La Coruna port.

We had visited the port before, back in Sep 2022 and had a nice walk across the town to the West side of the town. See our video at    • La Coruña Port Walk - Canary Islands Cruis...   for more details.

This time we decided that we would walk around the coastal path to the North of the cruise port, walking toward the Tower of Hercules (Spanish: Torre de Hércules) which is the oldest known surviving lighthouse in the world (apparently!).
Last time we visited, the weather was a bit dodgy and in fact it rained heavily just before we made it back to the ship. This time there, there was no chance of rain and we were set for a lovely sunny day.

The walk was really easy, all along nice flat pavements and paths, totalling around 3.7 miles from the cruise ship to the Tower of Hercules. Along the way, it was also really interesting to see the Monumento aos fusilados (Monument to the Executed - Monument to Those Executed by Firing Squad During the Civil War, 2001 (Isaac Díaz Pardo, Compostela 1920-2011)) and also the Menhires.

I'm not sure of the significance of the bagpipes being played at the Tower, but hey ho, it was nice anyway.

The walk itself was really good, on the way back we did take the shorter route through the town, primarily to try and find somewhere that sold decent cocktails :)
It does make it sound like we are a little obsessed by drinking, but we really don't drink that much... but we do like sitting and having a nice Mojito while on holiday, particularly after a nice long walk :)

Obviously, there are lots of places that sell FOOD, and I'm sure that they sell drinks as well, but we like to sit somewhere that clearly advertises that they sell cocktails, and because we mainly eat on the ship, we like places that are more drinks orientated than "proper" restaurants. Not always easy to find! :)

Over all though, this was a lovely day and we would definitely do this walk again the next time we are in La Coruna (although we may well take a drink with us to drink en route!).
