Smokey and the Bandit is a 1977 American action comedy film starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed, Pat McCormick , Paul Williams and Mike Henry. The directorial debut of stuntman Hal Needham, the film follows Beau "The Robber" Darville (Reynolds) and Clydus "Yeti" Snow (Reed). The story of two smugglers trying to illegally ship 400 cases of Coors beer from Texarkana to Atlanta. While the Yeti drives a truck filled with beer, the Bandit drives a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am to distract the police (known as a standoff) and divert attention from the Yeti. While escaping, they are hunted down by Texas County Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Gleeson).
