How I teach a dog to avoid the public

I have a new walking client. 
He has a moderate amount of environmental sensitivity.
He has questions about sounds, unknown people and unknown dogs.
I am teaching him that being on leash is not a time to make new friends or new enemies.
I bend over backwards to show him that he can move away from things that bother him.
He did get worried about another dog, I encouraged him to move away.
When we saw people, I showed him that we could go the other way.
I’m theatrical about this, because I want the dog to learn to do it himself.
I let him make as many choices as possible.
So I let the dog walk me in whatever direction he wanted.
I let him stop whenever he wanted.
I let him decide when we’re going to go the other way.
Aside from the one issue about the dog, I was wildly impressed.
I was very surprised that he was able to walk by the leaf blower.
And he really held it together despite the number of people & dogs that we saw.
The only solution to chronic stress is social support. 🥰
