When I’m walking 4 sensitive dogs at once, it is critical for me to establish that I am aware of everything that crosses our path.
I need to demonstrate that I make choices on their behalf that will work for them.
So every time I see a person or a dog, I point them out to the dogs, and then I tell what we’re going to do next.
I an ideal world, I would love to play up to avoid the public. I know that gives them the greatest sense of relief.
However there are sometimes where we will merely create distance, or we may change the direction we’re walking in.
Most importantly, every time I make a choice on their behalf that works for them, they are more likely to follow me during an emergency.
In this example, I point out people, dogs, and once I change the direction— because I do not think the person that we could encounter would be stable.
And that’s why I need to walk in places where I could see things at a great distance and have freedom of movement.
