Ouzoud Falls is the tallest waterfall in Morocco, dropping approximately one hundred and ten metres into a deep valley of the Middle Atlas Mountains.
Located near the village of Tanaghmeilt, it lies around one hundred and fifty kilometres northeast of Marrakech.
The waterfall is fed by the El-Abid River, a reliable water source that has carved this landscape over thousands of years. Its steady flow supports dense vegetation in an otherwise dry region, creating a vital ecological corridor.
Olive trees line the valley slopes, a feature so central to the area that the name Ouzoud is believed to come from the Berber word for “olive.” For generations, local communities have used the river to power traditional mills, shaping both the land and livelihoods around it.
The cliffs and forests are also home to Barbary macaques, one of the few primate species native to North Africa.
Today, Ouzoud Falls stands as both a natural landmark and a reminder of the long relationship between water, landscape, and human settlement in Morocco.
