QIGONG FOR THE LIVER AND GALL BLADDER

Clearing and rebalancing the liver and gall bladder meridians, releasing anger and frustration, and feeling great for the day ahead :)

In TCM thought, the liver and gall bladder meridians are associated with assertiveness and action - deciding and doing. The negative aspects are anger, resentment and frustration, which can leave us feeling stuck. The positive aspects are calm decisiveness, achievement and appropriate action.


KNOCKING ON THE GATE OF LIFE
A fantastic warm up for the whole system and the spine.
Let the arms swing completely relaxed, loose fists knocking on the belly and the lower back, and then on the lung points at the front of the shoulders.

SHAKING AND PATTING
We tap on the ends of the gall bladder, kidney, liver and spleen meridians and then pat gently over the major meridian lines of the body, clearing and reenergising.

LIVER HEALING SOUND - 'SHOOOOOOOO'
A clearance exercise for both the liver and gall bladder meridians.
Place the hands at the belly with the backs of the hands together.
Inhale.
Exhale with a long 'Shhhhhhhhoooooooooo' sound, throwing your hands up and outwards, then clenching the fists and bringing them close in to the shoulders. The body opens up and then closes inwards.
Imagine you are expelling old tension, frustration, anger and resentment with the breath. It may help to clench the fists strongly.
Place the fingertips together, palms facing down.
Inhale and straighten up, imagining calm clear energy coming into the system.

BOW DOWN IN SALUTATION
Here we tap on the lower part of the skull, a set of points that help to clear issues from the gall bladder.
Bring the hands up and over the ears, the thumbs resting on the side of the neck and the first finger resting on the top of the neck just where it meets the bottom of the skull.
Tap gently and rhythmically with the first fingers as you slowly bend forwards as far as is comfortable.
Again slowly, straighten up again, and open the hands up out to the side.

WOOD ELEMENT FLOW
Imagine your energy rooting deep into the earth and reaching up to the sky,
Qigong and tai chi often equate the human body with a tree. The legs are strong and firm, rooted downwards, and the arms wave gently and lightly like branches in the breeze.

PUNCH FISTS WITH ANGRY EYES
Focus on how this move feels, not how it looks.
It's good to be able to manage anger so that you are the master of it, rather than it being the master of you. This move expresses and releases excess or stagnant anger. Make the punches deliberate and strong, and clench your fists so that they are alive in every finger. You can go as fast or slow as you wish. Really express any anger you carry. It's better to feel and release it than to suppress it or take it out on other people.
When the punch is complete, we open the hand and come back to centre, drawing in new peace and freedom.

EMBRACE TIGER RETURN TO MOUNTAIN
Balancing, grounding, this move symbolises rising to meet life with courage, while remaining grounded and stable.
Exhale, clearing away old tensions.
Inhale and bring energy from the earth up to the heart.
Exhale, giving out at the heart.
Inhale as the hands rise to the heavens and exhale as they descend back to the earth.

BRINGING DOWN THE HEAVENS
Inhale as you lift the arms to the sky.
Exhale and bring heavenly energy down through every cell of your being.

COMPLETION
One hand over the other on the belly, as the chi settles in and recharges the system.
