On September 8, 2023, school administrators at Washington High School reported that a substitute had shown up to school while showing signs of intoxication. Officers from the Charles Town Police Department responded and located the individual, who admitted to driving to the school and believing they were in a safe condition to drive home.
The individual failed field sobriety tests and blew a 0.20 BAC in the school parking lot and a 0.166 BAC at the Charles Town Police Department. A search of her vehicle found a liquor-based mixed drink in an opened container, which appeared freshly made and mostly consumed.
The day after she was released, the individual attempted retrieving her impounded vehicle while again intoxicated with a 0.203 BAC.
Christina McConnell of Harpers Ferry, WV was arrested and charged with aggravated DUI. Her charges were later reduced to a standard DUI in a guilty plea agreement.
