This week at Journal Club, Dr. Laurie Sanders, Associate Professor at the Duke University presents her publication "A blood-based marker of mitochondrial DNA damage in Parkinson’s disease" published in Science Translational Medicine on 30 August, 2023. The study discusses the development of a PCR-based assay (Mito DNADX) for quantifying mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) damage in a scalable platform, finding elevated mtDNA damage in certain Parkinson's Disease (PD) patients and models.
