This week at Journal Club, Kayla presents Zhang et. al. 2020 "P53 and Parkin co-regulate mitophagy in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells to promote the repair of early steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head" published in Cell Death and Disease on 20 January 2023. The work explored how oxidative stress induces early osteonecrosis of the femoral head through stress-related cell aging and apoptosis, which can be alleviated by BMSC transplantation enhanced by manipulating Parkin and P53 to improve mitophagy.
