If you've ever wondered if you can make takoyaki in a cake pop maker, the answer is...definitely a YES! In fact, I've only ever used mine for making takoyaki :-) It looks and tastes exactly like takoyaki from a proper takoyaki machine - this is one of my favourite cooking hacks! I think it's a great way to make this Japanese snack more accessible as it might be easier for most people to find a cake pop maker instead of a takoyaki machine.
By the way, my takoyaki rolling technique is not perfect by any means! This is just how I do it and it always comes out super yummy :) Especially after you add the toppings!
Dashi stock:
♡500ml water
♡1 peice kombu
♡handful of bonito flakes
Takoyaki batter:
♡100g cake flour
♡pinch of salt
♡all the dashi stock from above recipe (should be about 350 ml)
♡1 tsp soy sauce
♡1 beaten egg
Fillings:
♡cooked octopus
♡spring onion
This is just what I like in my takoyaki, but you can also use pickled ginger; COOKED shrimp, squid, fish cake; kimchi, etc. (it just won't be "tako"yaki anymore;))
Toppings:
♡okonomiyaki sauce
♡aonori (seaweed powder)
♡mayonnaise
♡bonito flakes
Again, this is just what I like to use, but I've also seen spring onion, kimchi, regular seaweed, etc.
Hope you guys have as much fun with this recipe as I do! :)
