Paul's journey began on Reddit's r/Nootropics community, where he called out mislabeled supplements after fake products sent people to hospitals. When crowdfunded testing revealed systematic industry fraud, he launched Nootropics Depot to prove quality control was possible. Matt joined after Paul bought the original Nootropics Depot brand, united by their obsession with testing standards that mirror pharmaceutical operations.

But their transparency attracted scrutiny. In 2021, federal agents raided their facilities while Paul traveled internationally -- the optics were terrible, the investigation lasted two years, and the deferred prosecution agreement cost hundreds of thousands in destroyed inventory and legal fees. Yet no safety violations existed. Agents complimented their equipment even while seizing products.
