STORYLINE:
Kyrgyzstan''s deposed president Kurmanbek Bakiyev said on Tuesday he was willing resign if the interim authorities guarantee his security and that of his family.
In a further development, Kyrgyzstan''s interim leader and security service head both said they were ready to make such a promise.
The statements could point to a resolution of the tensions that have gripped the country since Bakiyev fled the capital during an uprising that left at least 83 people dead last week.
Surrounded by bodyguards, Bakiyev told a news conference in his home village of Teyit that he would consider resigning if the the interim authorities could guarantee "my own security and the security of members of my family and those close to me."
Interim leader Roza Otunbayeva told The Associated Press on Tuesday that her government would offer security guarantees for Bakiyev and his family if he steps down and leaves the country.
Speaking in Bishkek, the head of the security service of the interim government, Keneshbek Duishebayev, also said he could comply with the request.
"Naturally. We guarantee security to him personally and to his family," he said.
However when asked specifically about Bakiyev''s brother and son on Tuesday, Duishebayev, declined to comment.
Those men are among the Bakiyev relatives most often accused of reaping massive wealth through improper channels; complaints about corruption were a prime issue in the events that drove him out of the capital.
