On May 22, 2021, I lost my father to COVID.
Just two days later, our work... a dengue early warning system called Project AEDES... was recognized by UNICEF, the Digital Public Goods Alliance, and DOST-PCIEERD as an official Digital Public Good.
In this talk, I share our journey: from NASA hackathons to using open data, remote sensing, and machine learning to fight a very human problem. I also reflect on what it means to build for impact... not profit... and why some technologies are meant to serve everyone.
This is a story about grief, but also about purpose.
It’s a story about what happens when data science becomes public service.
And it’s a tribute to my father... whose quiet strength reminds me every day why I do this work.
