DEI Lost Momentum Because Its Loudest Voices Weren’t Its Wisest

DEI didn’t collapse because it was wrong — it collapsed because the emotional posture around it became unsustainable. In this video, I break down how some of the most well‑meaning voices in the DEI movement unintentionally hindered its progress by assuming malice, leading with confrontation, and pushing people into fear instead of commitment.
Using a simple story about reorganizing my home after marriage, I explain how many workplaces weren’t built with everyone in mind — not out of hatred, but out of habit. And when the moment finally came for women, Black professionals, and other marginalized groups to be heard, the conversation often turned combative. That conversation made people retreat, comply out of fear, and abandon the work the moment the pressure lifted.
This isn’t a takedown of DEI. It’s a call for a wiser, more sustainable approach — one rooted in generosity, curiosity, and constructive dialogue. If DEI is going to return (and it will), it needs to come back with better emotional intelligence and a deeper understanding of how humans actually change.
