Evolution in Motion: Training a 5-Segment AI Worm in GameMaker!
Following my first AI track-navigation project ( • I Built a Genetic Algorithm AI Engine (Vis... ) , I’ve taken things to the next level. In this second attempt, I’ve built a physics-based 5-segment worm that must learn how to move and navigate its environment using a custom-coded Neural Network and Genetic Algorithm.
Unlike my previous project, this AI has to master Box2D physics. It doesn't just "move"—(locomotion).
In this video, you’ll see:
My second AI attempt: Moving from simple navigation to complex physics-based movement.
The "Mark" Evolution: Watch as a 5-jointed creature goes from random twitching to coordinated crawling.
Custom Neural Network: A deep dive into how I use joint angles and floor sensors as inputs for the AI's brain.
Survival of the Fittest: See how the genetic algorithm selects the best "swimmers" and "crawlers" to seed the next generation.
Whether you're into game dev, neural networks, or just want to see a digital worm struggle and eventually succeed, this devlog covers it all.
Enjoy the evolution! Like and Sub to get more content like this.
